4 France Honeymoon Destinations

For those who have likely already traveled to the “City of Light,” Paris is not the only option for romantic France honeymoon destinations; far from it! France is full of lush vineyards, breathtaking mountains, vast beaches and quaint timber-homed villages to explore! Not to mention the incredible cuisine and wine for every palate! Below you’ll find four of the most romantic regions in France to cultivate your perfect honeymoon!

1) Brittany

Known for its rugged emerald coast and picturesque villages, Brittany is a colorful and calming region for a romantic honeymoon in France. If you and your love are foodies, adventurers and have a keen eye for the finer things, Brittany is the perfect spot to experience France’s diversity in culture and nature!

If you’re looking for activity, think museums, architecture and exquisite foods, check out the cities of Saint-Malo, Rennes and Vannes. Some of the smaller villages that make fantastic day trips include Cancale (famous for centuries for its oysters) or Dinan (historic city with cobbled streets).

In any of these towns, be sure to stop at the farmers markets for cheeses, honey, cider and pastries, all made locally. And if what you really want is to get out into nature, head to the Parc Naturel Regional d’Armorique; it is home to beaches, cliffs, forests and mountains and is great for leisurely walks, cycling and hiking adventures.

2) French Alps

Honeymooning in the French Alps just sounds luxurious, doesn’t it? With panoramic views of the snowcapped mountains accompanying you for dining, resting and adventuring, there is nowhere else in quite like the French Alps, making it one of the best France honeymoon destinations. Consider the Haute-Savoie region around the Mont Blanc mountain for quaint villages, incredible mountain sports and views that no camera can truly capture.

Whether you’re planning a winter getaway for you and your love or are heading to the flower covered mountainside during the warmth of the summer, the French alps are a romantic honeymoon backdrop for any season. For winter trips, enjoy your snow sport of choice, followed by spa treatments that include local Alpine botanicals. Finish the evening with regional Savoyard specialties and a glass of wine by the warmth of the fire.

For spring and summer adventures, hiking the Alpine trails is one for the books (and cameras!). Take a guided mushroom hunting daytrip! Stumble upon stunning waterfalls! Taste the region with cheeses, wild strawberries and hearty Tartiflette! A honeymoon in the French Alps is beautifully unique: a reflection of your newfound marriage.

3) Burgundy

Where food and wine are king, Burgundy is the ideal honeymoon for the couple who wants to relax, go at their own pace and enjoy the simpler things of life. With lush vineyards, Flemish architecture, rolling hills and cobbled streets, Burgundy is a quaint and authentic backdrop for your idyllic honeymoon in Europe.

The wine capital of Burgundy, Beaune is a hub and central location for exploring surrounding villages and vineyards. Although it is small enough to cover on foot, consider renting a bicycle and explore the surrounding vine-covered hills. Volnay and Pommard are tiny villages within cycling distance that are equally as charming and worth visiting. Pommard is known for high-quality wine; make your way back to Beaune by stopping along the route of the Grand Crus for wine tastings and lunch!

4) Occitanie

Neighbor to Provence and stretching along the Mediterranean coast to the Pyrenees, Occitanie includes both the Languedoc and Midi-Pyrenees areas and offers a stunning sun-soaked landscape with vineyards, dramatic mountain ridges and plunging river gorges. It’s one of the unique and less populated France honeymoon destinations for adventurous couples looking for a trip like no other.

Consider exploring the dramatic medieval fortress town of Carcassonne, with its narrow streets and spectacular views over the countryside. Or, for a bit of nature, walk or cycle along the UNESCO Heritage site Canal du Midi in Toulouse (otherwise known as the La Ville Rose or the Pink City): a tree-lined canal built between 1667-1681 that has beautiful landscape surrounding it.

As a major wine producing region, the area is known for its approachable vineyards and unfussy “country wines.” But, for something with a little more flair to celebrate life with your new spouse, be sure to try the famed sparking Crémant de Limoux!
