La Dolce Vita, City by City: My Journey Through Rome, Florence & Venice
Ciao from Italy! Katie here. I recently returned from an unforgettable familiarization trip through Italy. Over eight magical days, I explored Rome, Florence, and Venice, three of Italy’s most iconic cities, each offering a distinct flavor of history, art, and charm. From hand-rolling pasta with local chefs to gliding through Venetian canals, it was a journey that beautifully balanced cultural discovery with luxurious authenticity.
Italy is a destination that seems to hold a thousand stories at once, layers of ancient history, Renaissance genius, and a living, breathing passion for beauty. My itinerary unfolded like a love letter to the country itself: three nights in Rome, three in Florence, and two in Venice. Each stop revealed new connections, new flavors, and a deeper appreciation for why Italy remains one of WAC Travel’s most beloved destinations.

Rome: The Eternal City in Motion
Rome is always a feast for the senses, its golden morning light, lively piazzas, and layers of history blend together in a way that’s simply magnetic. One of my favorite memories came from a golf cart city tour, a fun and surprisingly intimate way to explore the city’s highlights. I zipped past the Colosseum, paused at the Trevi Fountain, and watched locals gather in quiet corners that most tourists might overlook. My guide, Luca, filled the drive with stories, mixing humor and history in that effortless Roman style.
Later, I joined a hands-on pasta cooking class, which turned into one of the most fun evenings of the trip. There’s something so satisfying about learning how to make pasta from scratch, especially when you get to eat it afterward! I also took a small group Vatican tour, and standing before Michelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel never ceases to awe, no matter how many times you visit.

- St. Peter’s Basilica and Vatican Museums
- Roman cuisine – especially carbonara!

Florence: Renaissance Romance in Every Corner
Florence feels like a living museum, every street corner holds a masterpiece. I spent three nights here and fell in love all over again with its art, architecture, and effortless charm. My private Florence highlights walking tour with my guide, Giulia, was a standout. She had a way of weaving history into storytelling that made figures like the Medici family and Michelangelo feel alive again.
A true highlight was our Chianti day trip with the amazing Franco, complete with a winery lunch overlooking the rolling Tuscan hills. In San Gimignano, we went to the famous local gelateria where my mom had FIVE scoops of gelato, including a scoop of tomato basil gelato (trust me… it tastes better than it sounds)! Between sips of Chianti Classico and locally grown bites, I caught myself thinking: this is the heart of Italy, genuine, delicious, and timeless. We also enjoyed another pasta cooking class, where we made too much pasta! From Pappardelle to Cappellacci, we learned how to perfect regional recipes and left with a recipe list to recreate at home!
One afternoon, my mom and I wandered through Florence’s leather markets, where the scent of fine craftsmanship filled the air. We ended up buying the cutest leather purses, simple, elegant, made by local artisans and the BEST souvenir to keep for years to come.

Venice: A Floating Dream
Venice was the perfect finale to my Italian adventure, two nights of romance, calm, and curiosity. Taking a private gondola ride through the quiet canals at dusk felt like stepping into a painting.
One of the most fun experiences was a small group food tour, where I discovered cicchetti, Venice’s version of tapas, paired perfectly with local wine. Between bites of marinated seafood and fried artichokes, I met fellow travelers who only made the tour more fun. Venice has a special way of reminding you that travel isn’t just about seeing new places, it’s about connecting with them.
